Our Mission & Philosophy
Educating the whole person through the traditions of classical education rooted in the Catholic faith.
Our Purpose
Why We Exist
The mission of Chesterton Academy of St. Michael, as part of the Chesterton Schools Network, is to form joyful Catholic leaders and saints through a classical, integrated liberal arts education rooted in faith. We cultivate a Culture of Life by developing intellect, character and spirituality, while offering a refreshingly affordable, joyful alternative to secular education.
Faith at the Center
Our school is, above all else, Christ-centered. Attending daily Mass is the core of all we do and takes primacy of place in how we structure our daily schedule. Our faculty members, all of whom take an oath of fidelity to the Magisterium, recognize God as the Creator and Redeemer of the world and Lord over human history. This understanding allows us to seamlessly integrate and embody our faith in the curriculum and the classroom.
Rigorous Formation
Our robust four-year curriculum balances the liberal and performing arts with rigorous math and science. Through effective use of the Socratic method and other time-tested pedagogies, we develop the critical thinking skills sought by universities. We limit technology to minimize distractions, encourage deep reading habits, and foster peer-to-peer relationships.
Outside the classroom, students actively engage with the world through service to the community, pro-life activity, and extracurricular activities.
The Chesterton Model
Three Pillars of Formation
Inspired by St. Pope John Paul II, we take as our motto Cultura Vitae — the culture of life. Our four-year curriculum finds its completion in Christian virtue and a love of beauty. Through our Three Pillars Model, we form the whole person: Intellect, Character, and Spirituality.
📖
Intellect
We teach the classics of Western thought, from physics to philosophy, and the interrelationship of the great ideas — training students not merely what to think, but how to think, through the Socratic method, deep reading, and limited technology.
⚖️
Character
We help students grow in the four cardinal virtues — prudence, temperance, fortitude, and justice — the foundation of leadership. Virtue develops through practice, and our House System lets students exercise it every day.
✝
Spirituality
Our school is, above all else, Christ-centered. Students come to embrace why they exist — to know, love, and serve God — with daily Mass at the core of all we do and a faculty devoted to their spiritual growth.
